The Department of Psychiatry of Naogaon Medical College is an important clinical department of the institution and plays a vital role in undergraduate medical education and mental healthcare. Since the establishment of the college, the department has been actively involved in teaching, clinical service, and training of future medical graduates in the field of mental health.

The department is responsible for teaching Psychiatry to MBBS students during their clinical years. Teaching focuses on the understanding, diagnosis, and management of common psychiatric disorders, behavioral problems, substance use disorders, and mental health emergencies, with emphasis on ethical practice, patient confidentiality, and a holistic, biopsychosocial approach to care.

The Department of Psychiatry is staffed with qualified, experienced, and dedicated faculty members, supported by medical officers, residents, nursing staff, and trained technical personnel. Academic and clinical activities are conducted in a structured and disciplined manner in accordance with the curriculum prescribed by the relevant authority.

Clinical teaching is carried out through outpatient services, ward rounds, case presentations, tutorials, seminars, and lectures. Students are trained in psychiatric history taking, mental status examination, communication skills, and basic counseling techniques under appropriate supervision.

The department is supported by psychiatric outpatient clinics and necessary diagnostic and therapeutic facilities. Modern teaching aids, including multimedia presentations and audiovisual equipment, are regularly used to enhance effective teaching and learning.
